This is my late father birth place. It is also the poorest, less developed and less populated region in Bulgaria and most probably in the entire EU. The landscape often is harsh, but beautiful. Their dialect is harsh, but beautiful. Their sense of humour is harsh, but hilarious. The weather is harsh too. Chilling windy winters alternating with very hot summers. As their character is. I’ve spend a lot of memorable summers there, playing with my cousins and friends. The inspiration for these series are in the work of August Sander and the masters of the Italian Neorealism in cinema.
